It’s an amazingly uplifting feeling to walk into a home you love every day, rather than a space that’s a constant source of frustration. This is probably why the most frequent regret that we hear clients express upon their project completion is “We wish we had done this sooner.” No remorse over the expense or the disruption. Only regret that they didn’t start earlier because of the dramatic impact remodeling has had on their quality of life.
The fact of the matter is that there has never been a better time to initiate a home remodel than today. Lead times and availability for construction materials are back to pre-COVID norms. Many remodelers have caught up on their backlog of work, making it easier to get into the design build queue than it has been for the past few years.
We recently sat down for a chat with our very own remodeling industry expert, Steve Inch, TriVistaUSA's Director of Build. According to Steve, 2023 is the “Year of the Home Transformation”, and here’s why.
Shorter Lead Times. During COVID, lead times were a drawn-out nightmare, but now lead times for custom windows, doors, and cabinets is a reasonable six to eight weeks. Conveniently, this is also about the length of time it typically takes to get a permit for your project. The timelines actually align like they used to. There are some remaining delays for certain premium appliance brands, but when it comes to creating your dream space, those last finishing touches are well worth the wait.
Material Availability. The pandemic spurred DIYers in droves to panic-buy lumber and other common materials at their local hardware stores. Because the same manufacturers were supplying both builders and the big box stores, shortages were inevitable. Now that the spike in DIY has dissipated, the demand has also eased, making those crucial materials easier to get.
Predictable Costs. Just as the demand for building materials spiked, so too did the associated costs. But as materials are more readily available once again, prices have settled into a manageable predictability, which makes planning a renovation budget much easier than before. That said, they are unlikely to come down further, which is another reason to proceed with your project plans.
Protecting Your Biggest Investment. Your house is your biggest investment, and beyond that, it’s the space where you and your family will make memories to last a lifetime. Whether you’re thinking of selling when the time is right, or if you’ve found your forever home, creating a space that functions—and looks—the way you want it to will pay dividends in more ways than one.
Take it from Steve Inch: 2023 is the “Year of the Home Transformation”. Now that the residential remodeling industry has returned to normal, now is the ideal time to start your next remodeling project. Let go of your hesitation and frustration, and get started on your journey to a better quality of life at home by remodeling now.
